Comfort and simplicity take center stage. Opening onto the beach and overlooking the bay of Grand-Baie Mauricia Beachcomber and its dedicated personnel embody the legendary Mauritian hospitality. You also have full access to the facilities of Canonnier another Beachcomber hotel located close to Mauricia Beachcomber.

One&Only Le Saint Géran

5-Star Hotel

Le Saint Géran, to put it as simply as possible, is the top-shelf luxury island experience in its purest possible expression. Don’t think you’ll be roughing it in Mauritius—despite the pristine white sands and the unspoiled palm stands, this is the most civilized of places, with an astonishing ratio of impossibly luxurious hotels per square kilometer, and Le Saint Géran quite near the top of the heap.

This is the sort of place where butlers and valets scramble to meet your arrival, and even an afternoon at the beach is accompanied by a flurry of activity, staffers laying out towels and spritzing guests with cool rose water. No wonder the average guest (if indeed there could be said to be such a thing as an average Saint Géran guest) barely ventures off the resort’s picturesque grounds during the course of a stay.

Sure, you could venture into town to take advantage of Mauritius’s multi-ethnic cuisine, but how often can you dine in a place like Rasoi by Vineet? The food is by Vineet Bhatia, a Michelin-starred chef whose London operation is a contender for the best Indian restaurants in the city — only here in Mauritius you enjoy it next to a breezy lagoon, with the green sugarcane-clad mountains as a backdrop.

In fact, it’s tempting just to remain in the suites, each tended to by butler service and staff so keen to tidy up that you’ll need to be quick with a Do Not Disturb tag to avoid any interruptions. The look is classic luxe and the functionality is five-star all the way, with Charlotte Rhys amenities and Egyptian cottons on the sprawling beds. With a lavish One&Only spa, a golf course, and a stunning expanse of private beach, it’s hard to imagine what one could possibly be missing elsewhere.

Swim with dolphins and experience the annual migration of humpback whales from July to September. Set sail for the sunset. Lose yourself to nature’s beauty in one of the last untouched paradises.

Kisawa Sanctuary

5-Star Hotel

Wherever there’s an unspoiled island paradise, there’s a luxury resort waiting to be born. In this case it’s the Bazaruto Archipelago, a marine reserve off the coast of mainland Mozambique. The island of Benguerra is everything you want from an escape, from the mild climate to the sandy beaches and the picturesque hillsides and dunes. And Kisawa Sanctuary, frankly, is everything you need from a resort: a thoroughly sustainable operation whose aesthetics combine modern construction methods and traditional crafts alike.

The result is nothing if not photogenic, and it’s a treat for the other senses as well — it’s laid out as a collection of mini-compounds, or Residences, each one comprising one, two, or three private bungalows. The spaces smoothly transition between indoor and outdoor, and each Residence comes with its own kitchen and its own infinity pool. Activities range from spa treatments to scientific expeditions and everything in between, and you can camp among the dunes if you’d like a break from your bungalow. In its sense of nature-immersed luxury it’s reminiscent of the best safari lodges, but in a desert-island setting.

Unique Things to do on Bazaruto Archipelago:

1. Snorkel at Two Mile Reef

One of the best snorkeling spots in Mozambique, this reef is teeming with colorful coral, tropical fish, and even sea turtles. A must for underwater enthusiasts!

2. Explore Benguerra Island

Iriomote Hotel by Hoshino Resorts

4-Star Hotel

Surrounded by the dense jungles of Iriomote Island, this resort provides a nature-rich base from which to explore the subtropical island's dynamic ecosystem and catch a glimpse of rare animal species. The hotel also provides a buffet restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of dishes to experience the bounty and depth of nature, a lounge where you can relax and a dining area on the island is also recommended.

Jusandi (a boat ride away from Iriomote)

5-Star Hotel

If there’s a place where modernist minimalism still feels authentically connected to the local tradition, it’s Japan — and while hotels the world over abandon the “international” style in favor of the new eclectic, bohemian look, true believers like Yutaka Momiyama, proprietor of Jusandi, are keeping the faith. Comprising a mere five villas on the Okinawan island of Ishigaki, Jusandi is a distinguished piece of architecture, with a sublime natural setting to match — this is the far southern end of Japan, much closer to Taiwan than to Tokyo, which means beautiful beaches, crystal-clear water, and lush sub-tropical forest.

It’s something of a passion project for Norihito Dan, an architect whose résumé tends towards large-scale projects like office towers and airports. Here you’ll live an architect’s dream: a stunning natural setting framed thoughtfully, never ostentatiously, by a dwelling that’s custom-tailored to its site. Throw in a plunge pool for good measure and you’ll see that luxury and minimalism can go hand in hand. Some villas are one-bedrooms, others two, and all share a private beach that’s rather more heavenly than you probably expect from Japan. The snorkeling, diving, and other water sports are exquisite, and the highlight just might be the Blue Cave, a coral-fringed cavern with quasi-mystical properties.

Unique Things to do in Iriomote:

1. Kayak Through Mangrove Forests

Explore the dense mangrove-lined rivers of Iriomote, such as the Urauchi River and Nakama River, on a guided kayak tour.

2. Hike to Pinaisara Falls

The tallest waterfall in Okinawa, accessible via kayaking and trekking tours, offers breathtaking views from the top.

3. Discover Barasu Island

A tiny coral island that appears and disappears with the tides, perfect for snorkeling and diving.

4. Take a Jungle Boat Cruise

Cruise along the Urauchi River, then hike through the jungle to reach Mariudo and Kanpiree Falls.

6. Spot the Rare Iriomote Yamaneko

This elusive wildcat is found only on Iriomote Island, though sightings are extremely rare.

7. Snorkel at Coral-Fringed Beaches

Explore Hoshizuna Beach, known for its star-shaped sand grains, and Funauki Beach, a secluded paradise.

8. Experience Night Wildlife Tours

Join a guided night tour to spot fireflies, nocturnal creatures, and the mysterious Yamaneko.

Langkawi, Malaysia

Langkawi, Malaysia, is a stunning tropical paradise made up of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea. Known for its pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and duty-free shopping, it’s a fantastic destination for both relaxation and adventure.

Best Time to Visit

  • December to February: Dry season with sunny skies and ideal beach weather.

  • September to November: Rainy season, but fewer crowds and lush landscapes.

Where to stay in Langkawi:

3-Star Hotel

Found Mansion is a stylish boutique hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia, offering a tranquil retreat just 2 km from Cenang Street. It’s known for its charming decor, lush garden views, and cozy atmosphere. The hotel features beautifully designed rooms, some with private pools. Guests can enjoy a year-round outdoor swimming pool, open-air bath, and terrace. Rooms come with free minibar items, including soft drinks and snacks. A full English or Irish breakfast is served daily, with halal options available. Close to Pantai Tengah Beach and Underwater World Langkawi, making it a great base for exploring.

Temple Tree Resort Langkawi

4-Star Hotel

Instead of building a typical resort complex from scratch, the proprietors sourced a variety of antique houses, in Chinese, Malay, and colonial styles, and moved them from their original locations, dismantling them piece by piece and painstakingly rebuilding them on this site.

The result is more like an eclectic little neighborhood than an ordinary villa resort. There’s a Heritage House available for more or less any taste — some houses are divided into up to four or five rooms, others split into pairs of suites, and the Negri Sembilan House is a self-contained unit. Each one is uniquely decorated in a style that blends authentic architecture and contemporary interior design, and none of them lack for personality, to say the absolute least.

The Datai

5-Star Hotel

Malaysia may not be the first place that springs to mind in the context of beachfront island getaways, but while the less imaginative travelers descend upon Thailand and Bali, a new resort scene has developed on Malaysia’s Langkawi Island, on the Andaman Sea.

Perhaps the most luxurious of these resorts is the Datai, set back from the impossibly pure white sand beach, a short walk uphill into the dense and unspoiled jungle. The resort is not alone on the island, though the thick forest completely obscures this fact—you’ll be hard pressed to find evidence of any of the neighboring hotels, and in fact the foliage is so dense you may at times lose sight of the Datai itself.

Rooms in the main building are a relative bargain, and some on the upper floor reach above the trees for unimpeded views of the sea—and guests who are feeling antisocial are welcome to book one of the outlying villas. The style of the interiors is what could reasonably be called Aman Modern, highly designed, all lush linens, hardwood floors, and Oriental furnishings, with the obligatory marble baths and satellite TV. Corner and End suites, naturally, have the best views.

A world-class spa is to be expected, and this one does not disappoint. For more athletic types, the Datai boasts an impressive range of activities, quite belying its deep-jungle ambience—water sports are plentiful, golfing fanatics may indulge their infernal pursuit, and the lighted tennis courts are open into the night. The two outdoor pools, surrounded by dense jungle, are particularly remarkable—just stay on the lookout for monkeys and lemurs, who may be tempted to involve you in their ongoing turf war.

Unique Things to do in Langkawi:

1. Walk Across the Langkawi Sky Bridge

A suspended curved bridge offering breathtaking panoramic views of the island and Andaman Sea.

2. Explore the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park

Take a mangrove boat tour through limestone formations, caves, and hidden lagoons while spotting eagles and monkeys.

3. Visit the Atma Alam Batik Art Village

Try your hand at batik painting, a traditional Malaysian art form, and take home a unique handmade souvenir.

4. Take a Sunset Cruise

Sail through Langkawi’s waters at sunset, enjoying BBQ dinners, live music, and breathtaking views.

5. Discover Pulau Payar Marine Park

A protected marine reserve perfect for snorkeling and diving, with vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life.

6. Visit the Langkawi Wildlife Park

Get up close with exotic birds, reptiles, and mammals, and even feed some of the animals.

7. Hike Gunung Raya

The highest peak in Langkawi, offering lush rainforest trails and stunning island views.

8. Experience the Langkawi Cable Car & SkyCab

Ride one of the steepest cable cars in the world to the top of Gunung Mat Cincang, with unmatched aerial views.

Top that with Maro playrooms, teenage activities and the Stay Fit program, featuring a fabulous time for all ages.

Boutique Hotel Alhambra

5-Star Hotel

It pays to get to know Croatia’s Adriatic coast. Among the dividends is Boutique Hotel Alhambra, a carefully restored concern on the southwest shore of the narrow Cres-Lošinj archipelago, hugging the curves of Čikat cove, a pristine and clement-weathered harbor in limestone and dolomite, softened by characteristic stands of pine and palm. You can tell right away that this was once a grand old villa — however thoroughly renovated, its architectural personality still comes through in the Austro-Hungarian façade, picturesque in every detail, from the arched loggias to the elegant quoin corners to the terra-cotta roofing.

Indoors, public spaces run the gamut of styles. The lounge bar features eccentric parquet flooring and curvilinear seating somewhere between retro-futuristic and mid-century cool, while the main restaurant personalizes the view with gorgeous glass frontage and a spacious terrace, perfect for a leisurely bottle of local wine. The heated indoor saltwater pool is the star of the show at the spa, augmented by a waterfall and a captivating geometric wall treatment, though the saunas and specialty treatments give it a run for its money.

The 36 rooms and 15 suites hit all the right notes, chiefly visual: furnished balconies permit enviable Mediterranean views over intricate, wrought-iron rails, and Dean Skira’s concept lighting maintains an open brightness throughout. Bathrooms include deep soaking tubs, vessel sinks, and natural amenities against a backdrop of checkered stone and mosaic. King beds feature oversize headboards and cream-and-tan linens, accented with Adriatic blue and tawny orange. Alhambra rounds out the experience with wi-fi, satellite TVs, and docking stations, though they won’t be the clincher: that honor goes to the private beach and bar.

Unique Things to do in Losinj:

1. Visit the Muzej Apoksiomena

A fascinating art museum built around a single ancient sculpture—the Apoxyomenos, a Greek bronze statue discovered in the Adriatic Sea.

2. Explore Tematski Vidikovac Providenca

A rustic dining spot with panoramic sunset views, serving local Croatian cuisine on wooden platters. Perfect for a romantic evening.

3. Wander Through Cikat Forest Park

A lush nature reserve with scenic walking trails, perfect for hiking, cycling, and peaceful strolls.

4. Discover Veli Zal Beach

A wild and secluded beach with crystal-clear waters, ideal for a quiet escape.

5. Experience the Lošinj Aromatic Garden

A charming botanical garden featuring medicinal plants, herbs, and local flora, plus friendly goats and a donkey wandering around.

6. Take a Dolphin-Watching Tour

Losinj is known for its resident population of bottlenose dolphins, and you can join a marine conservation tour to see them up close.

7. Visit the Blue World Institute

A marine research center dedicated to studying and protecting dolphins and other marine life in the Adriatic Sea.

8. Hike to the Top of Osorščica Mountain

One of the best viewpoints on the island, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Losinj and the surrounding Adriatic Sea.

Folegandros, Greece

Best Time to Visit

  • May to October: Warm weather, ideal for beach days and exploring.

  • Spring & Fall: Fewer crowds, perfect for hiking and sightseeing.

Where to stay in Folegandros:

Blue Sand Boutique Hotel & Suites

3-Star Hotel

Indulge in a luxury beachfront retreat in view of the endless sea while listening to the sound of its whispers. Swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean and pump up your adrenaline with exciting water sports adventures. Try the specialties of the local cuisine and discover the island’s secrets on daily excursions through magical landscapes to its golden shores, sites and attractions. Enjoy a series of exciting sunset cruises, boat excursions and helicopter transfers.

Gundari

5-Star Hotel

Rising up from the Aegean Sea between the Cycladic islands of Santorini, Milos, and Paros is the much less-frequented Folegandros. It’s known for its wild beauty and dramatic landscapes, and Gundari was designed to match the rugged scenery. Raw luxury is the guiding principle: this clifftop property itself is large and windswept, occupying 80 acres on the island’s southern coast. The resort’s low-lying architecture, sustainably built with rock excavated from the site, barely disrupts the contours of the land, and the interiors are outfitted in earth tones and natural materials, including stone, straw, and timber.

Onto the luxury part: despite the expansive grounds, the resort has just 27 suites and villas, and even the simplest option is remarkably roomy. Every suite has as much outdoor space as indoor, with sleeping and living areas opening seamlessly onto private terraces with infinity pools and staggering views of the sea. There’s lounge space for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade, not to mention outdoor rain showers for rinsing off afterward. The look may be nature-inspired, even rustic, but the bathrooms are marble and the sound system is first-rate; the designers bring a touch of urban gloss from Athens. Higher-level cave suites are even more impressive with their cliffside positions and extras like double rain showers, vintage turntables with records, and stocked cocktail bars for shaking up drinks by the pool. Villas come with extra-large infinity pools.

With views like these from one's private deck and pool, it’s easy to stay put all day. But Gundari also has a larger infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a gorgeous indoor-outdoor spa, and a contemporary Greek farm-to-table restaurant with ingredients sourced from the hotel’s organic garden.

ANEMI Folegandros

5-Star Hotel

One must be at least somewhat comfortable with minimalism to appreciate the landscape of the Cyclades — stark cliffs, stark sky, stark sea — and the region’s architecture, with its white walls and simple, squared forms, was minimalist before the concept had a name. It’s a formula that can’t miss, just about anywhere in the Greek islands, but Folegandros, a relatively remote little speck of a place, offers up some of the most breathtaking emptiness in the whole archipelago.

ANEMI’s forty-four rooms, while extremely comfortable, are a studied (and decidedly modern) arrangement in spare luxury. The bright whiteness of the bedroom is offset only by large-scale artworks over your bed and the view of the bay of Karavostasis beyond your verandah. Restroom fixtures are beautifully utilitarian with modern tile work worthy of your vacation photo album. All rooms are equipped with kitchens and can make for a luxurious home away from home, and a couple of suites also boast private personal swimming pools, which make leaving almost entirely unnecessary.

But the island’s beaches and cliffs will inevitably draw you out, and after a day spent in this vast outdoor luxury, ANEMI’s restaurant will likely draw you back. Mediterranean flavors in modern arrangements can really only get better when enjoyed slowly beneath your own private trellis, maybe even with your toes dipped in a saltwater pool. So begins the cycle of the Cyclades, and with the help of ANEMI’s minimalist décor, minimalist demands and maximalist luxury, you’ll be happy to linger for quite a while.

Unique Things to do in Folegandros:

1. Visit the Church of Panagia

Perched on a hill above Chora, this iconic white church offers spectacular sunset views and a peaceful atmosphere.

2. Explore Chrisospilia Cave

A mysterious sea cave with ancient inscriptions, accessible only by boat. A fascinating spot for history lovers!

3. Relax at Katergo Beach

One of the island’s most secluded beaches, known for its crystal-clear waters and dramatic cliffs.

4. Wander Through Chora’s Kastro

The oldest part of Chora, dating back to the 13th century, with narrow alleys and medieval architecture.

5. Swim at Livadaki Beach

A hidden paradise with turquoise waters and soft sand, perfect for a peaceful escape.

6. Visit the Ecological and Folklore Museum

Located in Ano Meria, this museum showcases traditional Cycladic life and local history.

7. Discover Ambeli Beach

A remote and untouched beach, ideal for those seeking solitude and natural beauty.

8. Hike the Island’s Scenic Trails

Folegandros has stunning hiking routes, leading to hidden beaches, panoramic viewpoints, and charming villages.

Pantelleria, Italy

Zubebi Resort

4-Star Hotel

Zubebi is the place of rest for the soul, where the senses are quiet, at a safe distance from the daily frenzy, and then awaken in contact with the surrounding nature, which revolves around the four elements: the water of the deep blue seas, the air of the winds that embrace the island, the land of vineyards and fruit trees and the fire of volcanic origins.

By listening to a slow pace, it is possible to abandon oneself to rest, become part of this evocative reality with a memorable flavor and return home different. Enriched by the island daughter of the winds.

Sikelia Luxury Retreat

5-Star Hotel

Couture Italian getaway on volcanic Pantelleria Island. Ancient and modern come together at Sikelia, a striking boutique retreat created within centuries-old dammusi - old monastic buildings. These pure white dwellings, all atmospheric archways and shaded courtyards, perfectly complement the lava-formed landscape of Pantellaria. Suites take their cue from this setting too, with a soft grey and white palette, and contemporary glass against old stone walls. Created by a modern design team, they are spacious yet intimate. Some come with private terraces and alfresco dining patches. All feature luxury bathrooms. Beyond your bedroom, discover a cool, palm-fringed pool made for lazy mornings. In the afternoon, you can swap a plush lounger for a plump massage bed and enjoy spa treatments in the Arabic garden. The island offers plenty more in the way of spa experiences - with thermal springs and mud baths. Ask the hotel to help with bicycle or car hire or hiking trails if you prefer to explore by foot. Be sure to sample local wines too. A visit to a vineyard offers a wonderful introduction to Pantelleria grapes. Or you could sip your way through a bottle at the Sikelia restaurant. Chefs at Thema give modern twists to Italian classics - with African and Arabic influences. Prepare for each plate to look like a little work of art. Anthony's Key Resort Sandy Bay

3-Star Hotel

Anthony's Key Resort offers a unique blend of adventure and tranquility in the stunning Caribbean setting of Roatan Bay Islands Honduras. Guests enjoy charming hillside bungalows and waterfront retreats all with breathtaking views. Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa

4-Star Hotel

The Honduran island of Roatán is perhaps most famous for its proximity to the world’s second-largest barrier reef and the world-class snorkeling and diving that that implies. Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa applies the Kimpton brand’s decades of high-end boutique-hotel experience to this island idyll, with impressive results. Accommodations range widely across categories, from rooms and suites to bungalows and condos; the design is vibrant and modern and the comforts are plentiful. The indigenous-inspired Kao Kamasa Spa is a major attraction, as are the excursions, both on land and sea; the Kimpton signature social hour is a daily highlight.

Ibagari Boutique Hotel

5-Star Hotel

In a place as idyllic as the Honduran island of Roatán, between the verdant jungle and the spectacular Caribbean, you don’t need all that much from your lodging — which makes a place like Ibagari Boutique Hotel such a delightful extravagance. But this place is an absolute stunner, inside and out. Long gone are the days of floral bedspreads and wicker furnishings — though the colors are sunny and tropical, Ibagari’s interiors display a modernist simplicity, not to mention a gallery-worthy art collection.

The accommodations are all suites, some with views of the jungle and others with views of the sea. All come with a king bed or two doubles, with the exception of the two-bedroom villa, and they’ve all got balconies or terraces and can be opened to the breeze.

Roatán’s diving is legendary, and rightly so — the on-site dive center has everything you need, from equipment to instruction to tours. There’s plenty to do on the surface as well, from kayaking and paddle-boarding to land-based excursions like hiking and golf. And while there are several dining and drinking options within a walkable radius, don’t be surprised if you find yourself continually drawn to Ibagari’s own open-air restaurant and lounge.
