Embark on a quintessential Oregon road trip that takes you from the urban charm of Portland to the breathtaking beauty of the Oregon Coast, through vibrant small towns and lush landscapes. This unforgettable journey winds through coastal gems like Seaside and Cannon Beach, where rugged cliffs meet the roaring Pacific, and continues down to Depoe Bay and Newport, offering glimpses of migrating whales and serene beachside strolls. Along the way, you'll discover an incredible blend of natural wonders, culinary delights, and hidden treasures that define the essence of Oregon. Buckle up and let the adventure begin!

I recently planned this journey for me and my husband this June. I am very excited about exploring the beauty of Oregon.

Oregon Trip (Map link)

In this post, I will cover stops including:

Stop 1: Portland

Portland, Oregon, is a dynamic city that offers a blend of urban charm and natural beauty. Known as the "City of Roses," it's famous for its lush gardens, vibrant neighborhoods, and eco-friendly culture. Visitors can explore iconic spots like the International Rose Test Garden and the Portland Japanese Garden, both offering serene escapes in the heart of the city. Portland is also celebrated for its food scene, including its renowned food carts and craft breweries. Whether you're into outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, or simply soaking in the city's quirky vibe, Portland has something for everyone.

Best time to visit Portland:

The best time to visit Portland, Oregon, is typically from June to August. During these summer months, the weather is warm and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the low 80s. This is also when the city's famous roses are in full bloom, making it an ideal time to explore the International Rose Test Garden and other outdoor attractions. Additionally, summer is packed with festivals and events, such as the Portland Craft Beer Festival and the Festival of Balloons.

If you prefer fewer crowds and cooler weather, consider visiting in the spring (March to May) or fall (September to November). These seasons offer beautiful foliage, blooming flowers, and a more relaxed atmosphere. Winter, while rainy, is a great time for indoor activities and exploring Portland's cozy coffee shops and vibrant food scene.

Graduate by Hilton Eugene

4-Star Hotel

Just under two hours down the Willamette Valley from Portland is Eugene, Oregon, a small city that is, in its capacity as the home of the University of Oregon, one of the hippest college towns in the western United States. And with the advent of the Graduate Eugene, its hotel scene has grown measurably hipper — this one-time Hilton in the city’s downtown district, a few blocks from the campus proper, is now decked out in Ducks green, and its reception desk is a display case featuring dozens of historic Nike running shoes.

The now-famous shoe brand was born here in what’s called TrackTown USA, and it turns out Graduate founder Ben Weprin is a bit of a collector. Upstairs, the rooms go heavy on Pacific Northwest atmosphere, with plenty of wood grain and saturated green. And the university’s duck mascot is everywhere, as are stills from Animal House, the John Belushi college comedy that was shot here in Eugene.

And it wouldn’t be a Graduate without some inviting social spaces. Poindexter, the café, serves hot breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, pressed juices, and of course strong Northwest-style coffee, while the Trophy Room, the lobby-level restaurant and bar, is a tribute to the university’s storied athletic history.

The hotel's freshly designed guest rooms and suites are bathed in natural light and provide urban views of Eugene. Make an occasion of sunrise or sunset or enjoy a bird’s eye view of the 5th Street Public Market. Slip into your robe, prepare a cup of tea or coffee, and ease into your Eugene stay. From original artwork to bespoke furniture, expect an inspiring experience at The Gordon.
